Myasthenia Gravis Crisis
There are a few conditions that once a patient of Myasthenia Gravis gets, it becomes life-threatening for them. Since this is a condition that involves the neuromuscular junctions and the pathology results in the weakness of the muscles. Therefore, the patient usually suffers to see, hold things and also walk properly. However, if this condition exacerbates and reaches the muscles of the respiratory system, it can turn fatal for the person.
Every individual needs to respire in order to keep the flow of oxygen continued in the vasculature. However, if an individual stops breathing, due to the pathology existing in the body due to Myasthenia Gravis, this person can die from hypoxia in the brain. The brain cannot survive for even a minute without oxygen and energy and hence the person can very quickly fall into a comatose state. This is called a ‘Myasthenic Crisis.’
Individuals who come to the Emergency with respiratory failure are then quickly evaluated and then through proper intubation and mechanical ventilation techniques, the supply of oxygen is established. This life-saving technique is the only way through which patients with Myasthenic crises can be saved.
