Paracetamol chemistry and structural properties

The chemical name of Paracetamol is 4-acetaminophen. One amino group is attached to the phenyl ring at carbon number 4. The hydrogen of the amino group is replaced by an acetamide group which makes Paracetamol or acetaminophen. If any other group replaces the acetamide group, it would not have the same clinical effect. Similarly, changing the position of the acetamido group from carbon number 4 to any other position would destroy the therapeutic effect of the drug. This means that any elimination, substitution, and addition would not give the same therapeutic efficacy results as Paracetamol.
The structure of acetaminophen has two hydrogen bond donors and two hydrogen bond acceptors. The molecular weight of the compound is 155.2g/mol. A derivative of acetaminophen is acetaminophen sulfate, a metabolite of acetaminophen in the human body. Other derivatives of acetaminophen include acetanilide, hydroquinone, and diuron.
