Other than the general symptoms of portal hypertension, other symptoms may be present which are related to the cause including:

  • Signs of liver cell failure: They include easy bruising, affection of consciousness and jaundice.
  • Signs of splenic vein occlusion: Such as severe abdominal pain and enlargement of the spleen within a short period of time.
  • Signs of kidney failure: One of the complications of portal hypertension is kidney failure. It causes the accumulation of toxins such as urea in the body with manifestations like severe itching, fatigue, loss of appetite and cognitive dysfunction.
