Portal Hypertension; Causes, Symptoms, Diagnosis, & Treatment

Hepatorenal syndrome

Hepatorenal syndrome is an important complication of portal hypertension due to liver cirrhosis. It means that kidney functions deteriorate in the absence of any disease of the kidneys, and it occurs in patients who have ascites. Hepatorenal syndrome worsens as portal hypertension does and is completely reversible if the liver disease is reversed, which means that a kidney transplant is not needed.
