Liver transplantation
Liver transplantation remains the ideal option for all conditions causing hypertension that are related to the liver. The procedure is now done all over the world with increasing success rates. It includes the removal of a lobe of the liver from a donor whether alive or dead and then its placement inside another whose liver functions are impaired or who has liver cirrhosis.
Unfortunately, not all people are candidates for liver transplantation, and many may have to continue on conservative treatment using medications and other endoscopic procedures. The main criteria that doctors use to identify ideal transplant candidates is called Milan criteria.
