Risk Factors For Snoring
The following factors will predispose an individual to snore or cause regular snoring:
- Age: Decrease muscle tone, hypotonia physiologically occurs as we age, hence the older we get, the more we are at risk of snoring
- Genetics: Family history has proven to be a stronghold in snoring, it runs in families. Once a family member snores, there is a high chance of it being seen down the family tree as well.
- Obesity: People who are overweight are more at risk of snoring than the remaining percentage of the population.
- Gender: Snoring has been implicated more in the male gender compared to females (1).
