Symptoms Of Varicose Veins
High visibility, and abnormally shaped veins, typically on your legs, are the main signs and symptoms of varicose veins. Additionally, you can have discomfort, edema, heaviness, and muscle aches over or near the swollen veins (2). Other clinical manifestations of varicose veins include:
- Bulging vein: Veins that are twisted, bulging, and rope-like are frequently blue or purple. They occur on your legs, ankles, and feet just below the skin’s surface. They may grow in groups. Spider veins, tiny blue or red lines, might be seen close by.
- Pain: the pain is worsened and much felt when standing or sitting for a long period.
- Skin discoloration: poorly managed varicose veins usually result in changes in the skin color around the area with varicose veins, and after a while, ulceration of the skin can occur as well, especially from friction.
- Swelling: most often than not, people with varicose veins often experience swelling of their lower limbs which include the leg, the knee, and the ankle of the affected site.
- Itching: Itching is one of the commonest complaints from patients with varicose veins and this is also one of the commonest causes of ulcers around the area (1,3).
