4. Peptic ulcer
Peptic ulcers are open sores that develop in the lining of the stomach or small intestine. They may cause bleeding, which can result in black stool. Peptic ulcers can be caused by bacterial infection, excessive use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), or other factors.
