Bulging flanks
This is one of the signs of ascites we commonly find in patients with liver impairments during the physical examination. The liquid in the abdominal cavity follows different steps before causing a round belly. It accumulates initially in the lower part of the abdominal cavity, in the pelvic area. When the pelvic area is filled with liquid, it goes up to the upper parts of the abdominal cavity, and it usually uses the flanks on each side of the intestines. Thus, we may find bulging on the right and left sides of the abdomen that resembles abdominal fat but wobbles similar to a liquid.
