12) Vomiting or Nausea

The gastrointestinal system and its movements are also linked with the autonomic nervous system. You need the parasympathetic nervous system to promote intestinal transit. But in alcohol withdrawal syndrome, the opposite branch of the autonomic nervous system is activated. Thus, instead of fostering intestinal transit, you will likely experience nausea and sometimes vomiting. Besides the nervous involvement, your stomach can be eroded by alcohol, and you may have other gastrointestinal problems triggered by substance abuse.
