Treatment
The main treatment recommended by the majority of health experts for Amebiasis is the use of Metronidazole and abundant hydration methods. The typical dose of Metronidazole which is used for Amebiasis is 500 or 750 mg, which is to be taken three times a day for at least seven days.
While this is a safe dose for adults, this cannot be given to children, and they require a lower dose. The dose of Metronidazole recommended for children is to take three divided doses of 35 mg per kg to 5 mg per kg each day.
If an individual is unable to take Metronidazole, they may also take Tinidazole, Ornidazole, or Nitazoaxanide as its replacement. This antibiotic use is usually followed by the use of Luminal agents like Paromomycin or Diodohydroxyquin.
If an individual is also suffering from an Amebic liver abscess as a consequence of Amebiasis, this can be managed by the Aspiration of their liver using CT guidance along with the prescription of Metrodizaole. Even though surgery is not required for a majority of cases, it may be conducted in the case of very large gastrointestinal bleeding or perforation of the colon.
