Complications
There are a lot of complications that permanently develop due to the infestation of an Ascaris lumbricoides larva, all of them are related to the small intestine. These include;
- Bleeding from the rectal side– The worms occupy the intestinal space which results in ulceration of the walls. This results in bleeding from the rectum.
- Pancreatic pseudocyst– If the larva harvests inside the pancreas damaging the cells, the organ develops a cyst full of inflammatory material which causes a lot of pain and hindrance in the normal functioning of the pancreas.
- Hepatobiliary disease– There are a number of liver and gallbladder disorders that occur with the infestation of Ascaris lumbricoides such as jaundice and cholecystitis.
