Bilirubin Test | About, Purpose, Uses, Interpretation & More

Is there another non-liver condition that leads to high bilirubin levels?

Yes. Even though bilirubin is an integral part of the liver panel, it is not exclusive to liver disease. These conditions can be detected with high bilirubin levels:

  • Hemolytic anemia and pernicious anemia, in which there’s a high proportion of red blood cells being broken down
  • Blood type incompatibility in newborns
  • Congenital infections in newborns
