Carpal Tunnel Syndrome; Causes, Treatment & Prevention

Carpal Tunnel Causes

Carpal Tunnel Causes

Carpal Tunnel mainly occurs by increased pressure on the Carpal Tunnel, which leads to the compression of the Median Nerve. It is most commonly associated with repeated wrist movement, which may be seen during typing and machine work. The majority of the cases of Carpal tunnel are multifactorial in nature, which means there is not a single exact cause for their development, but a number of different factors which eventually lead to the condition. These factors, as mentioned earlier, may be related to their profession, or they may be social and environmental in nature.

The series of events that lead to the onset of Carpal Tunnel syndrome include increased pressure on the carpal tunnel, blockage of the veins of that area, development of localized edema, and finally, the compression of the Median nerve. This leads to an inflammation in the surrounding connective tissues, which causes them to lose their protective and supportive abilities. This damage can be further worsened by the repetitive movement of the writs, which will cause further compression and inflammation of the area.
