2) Sore Throat

A sore throat is the second most common symptom after fatigue and malaise. It happens because the main focus of the Epstein Barr virus infection occurs in the oropharyngeal mucosa.
Patients often develop painful pharyngitis, and sometimes, the swollen lymph nodes are very large and cause breathing difficulty. This symptom usually responds to local anesthetics and systemic anti-inflammatories.
