Fatty liver disease is a manifestation of faulty dietary habits including excess fats in diet and overconsumption of alcohol. The damage these two inflicts upon other organs can be a sign of a concurrent liver disease. Other diseases include:

  • Heart attack or angina: symptoms like chest pain, effort breathlessness and a general feeling of weakness
  • Stroke: Stroke presents with inability to talk coherently, numbness and paralysis of one side of the body
  • Stomach ulcers from excessive alcohol consumption: Stomach pain and sometimes bloody vomiting can be a sign of stomach ulcers. Vitamin deficiencies are also common in alcoholic patients and they can manifest by skin rashes, affection of memory and mouth ulcers.
  • Diabetes mellitus: Diabetes mellitus has no specific symptoms, but things like excessive thirst and excessive urination are highly suggestive. Also, rapid changes of weight is a symptom that deserves a visit to your doctor.
  • Hypertension

In many cases, damage to other organs can be more severe than fatty liver disease and becomes more pressing to treat. Patients with fatty liver disease usually do not die of fatty liver disease or liver failure. They die of heart attacks, strokes, and sometimes even liver cancer. This shows that fatty liver disease is not an isolated illness, but a while syndrome with multiple problems and conditions.
