Complications of low ferritin
Low ferritin in itself is unlikely to cause complications, but iron deficiency anemia can cause various complications including:
- Delayed growth in children
- Lack of concentration and memory of affection
- Heart failure
- Menstrual irregularity and infertility
- Depression
- Weakened immunity and increased risk of infections
- Pregnancy complications especially decreased weight of the newborn and worsening of the anemia following delivery.
