Myalgias and arthralgias
The above signs and symptoms are ideally found in any patient with hepatitis. But in hepatitis C, patients only start displaying these symptoms when the disease has already caused a severe liver injury. Thus, they cannot be used as warning signs because the organ is already damaged. Unfortunately, the early signs and symptoms are very unspecific and do not always point out hepatitis C. Myalgias and arthralgias are two of those vague symptoms.
Patients feel muscle and joint pain due to the viral infection in the early stage of the disease. This does not mean that the virus is attacking the muscles or the joints. Instead, it is the patient’s immune system that involves healthy tissues in the crossfire against hepatitis C.
