11 Warning Signs & Symptoms of Hepatitis You Should NOT Ignore!

Nausea

Nausea with or without vomiting is a common symptom in most types of hepatitis. Patients with hepatitis who report nausea usually have abdominal pain, too. They have moderate and sometimes severe gastrointestinal distress, also. The liver can be considered a part of the gastrointestinal system, mainly because the bile in the gallbladder contributes to fats’ digestion. However, this symptom is not necessarily caused by the inability to digest fats.

According to certain studies, nausea, vomiting, and gastrointestinal distress are signs of the hepatitis virus’s systemic infection. In other words, it has a predilection to the liver tissue, but it can also colonize and cause disease in other tissues, especially the gastrointestinal tract. Another possibility is that the hepatitis virus creates an immune response in the body, and the brain centers respond by triggering the gag reflex. It is also possible that the hepatitis virus and the stretching of the abdominal organs cause changes in the nerve fibers that reach the intestines.
