Fatigue
Patients with symptomatic viral hepatitis, regardless of their type, usually feel fatigued, too. This is a common symptom, along with malaise, in many infectious diseases. Fatigue in hepatitis is caused by severe stress in the immune system. There’s an ongoing inflammatory process, and thousands of white blood cells require a continuous supply of energy to perpetuate their fight against the virus. Additionally, the liver is not fulfilling its role of getting rid of toxins, and some of them cause fatigue when they build up. Fatigue is more common in acute disease but also found in chronic cases of hepatitis.
