The trend of the disease
The trend of Leptospirosis is increasing worldwide. The various kinds of activities that take place worldwide have supported the surge of this infection. Even recreational activities among wildlife and tourism have caused the spread of the disease. In addition, the exotic destinations of the world and army expeditions often showcase Leptospirosis.
A study published in Science Direct shows the incidence of Leptospirosis in 28 different countries of the world. These countries have a comparatively higher incidence of Leptospirosis than the other countries. There has been an endemic in these places, especially in the Caribbean and Central American region. The cases also show a rise in Southeast Asia and Oceania regions.
Another study published in the PLOS journal showed the morbidity and mortality rates associated with Leptospirosis infections. The number of cases of contraction is very high. The study shows 0.10 to 975 cases out of every 100,000 people. Studies based on active surveillance reported significantly higher cases than passive surveillance. The fatality ratio was found to be 6.85% out of the total number of cases recorded in 35 different studies. Today, there is a very swift traveling across the borders every day. This has made the spread and contraction of diseases easier. However, it is hard to limit the number of cases to a specific region since the site of origin almost remains vague even after systematic inferences.
