Treatment of leptospirosis
Antimicrobial therapy is the most effective way of treating Leptospirosis, both in humans and in pets. The usual antibiotics used for this purpose are doxycycline and penicillin class of antibiotics. People with more severe symptoms are administered intravenous drugs instead of oral drugs. The treatment through the use of drugs should be started as soon as the infection is rightly discovered. This is because reaching the correct diagnosis in the case of Leptospirosis is very difficult. Usually, the infection has already worsened, or a few days have already passed, so the medication should not be delayed.
The patient might immediately collapse and reach the cardiotoxic stage in severe cases. The patient might suffer from tachycardia and cardiac flutter. The symptoms of the patient should be effectively managed. Intensive Care Support should be provided until 50% of the severe symptoms subside. If the immune system causes a cytokine storm, the patient should be given corticosteroids to deal with the situation. Leptospirosis has been known to cause liver and kidney damage, so suitable tests should be conducted regularly, and the patient should not avoid follow-up consultation for complete recovery.
