Weight loss
The symptoms listed so far in this section, along with weight loss, make up a critical syndrome that is very common in almost every case of advanced cancer. It is called cachexia, and it can be measured by weight loss. Care should be taken if the patient’s weight has dropped 5% or more body weight in a few months or weeks without any change in his activity levels or diet. Marked weight loss is usually a sign of a bad prognosis. In other words, significant weight loss suggests a very advanced cancer that is more difficult to handle.
