What happens during a liver function test
Liver function tests are usually done by drawing blood from your veins in a specialized facility or hospital. First of all, the nurse will clean the area where the sample will be taken. This prevents skin infections or the introduction of a microorganism in your body.
Before or after cleaning, you will have an elastic strap wrapped around your arm. This can be somewhat tight and may make your arm feel a bit numb for a very short while. The idea is to make your veins more visible and testing the best place to draw the blood sample. After trying your veins with gloves on, the nurse will use a needle to draw the blood sample.
After obtaining the blood sample, it will be transferred to a blood sample tube, which will be sent to a laboratory. The nurse will take off the elastic strap, clean the area again, and place a bandage to cover the puncture site.
