Signs & Symptoms
Malaria starts as an asymptomatic disease because the first stage is the inoculation and incubation period. This lasts up to 1 month, after which patients will begin having symptoms. Some patients may also display mild flu-like symptoms during the incubation period, but the most critical aspects of the diagnosis are evident after four weeks. They include:
1) Cough
Malaria is not by itself a disease of the respiratory system, but it does affect the lungs in some cases. Cough is a prevalent symptom in the early stages of the disease. It is usually one of the first symptoms to appear and one of the first to disappear. It happens not only to patients with advanced and complicated illnesses but also to patients with mild symptoms.
The reason why they start coughing is that the airways become narrow as a result of local inflammation. In some cases, there could be problems in gas exchange, and some patients may end up with lung injury even after the disease is entirely resolved.
