If I have a Manual Work, Will Trigger Finger or its Surgery Affect my Work?

One of the main concerns regarding trigger finger is with those who have a manual profession whether they are welders, blacksmiths, carpenters, or those who use their hands for meticulous work such as tailors and watchmakers. Trigger finger does not disable the hand completely except later in the disease, and even then, surgery is very effective in reversing the disability. It is very rare for hand surgery to cause permanent disability, and the rate of this occurrence has even decreased in recent years owing to the advances in surgical techniques and materials.
You may need to discuss the possibility of continuing your current work with your doctor following the surgery. There is no concrete evidence that a certain profession can cause recurrence of trigger finger, but stress is indeed a precipitating factor to the occurrence of the condition in the first place and is likely to cause a recurrence in some professions such as those who use metal shears.
