Erbium YAG Laser & Photodynamic Therapy

Erbium YAG lasers are solid-state lasers that have a solid-state laser medium. This method destroys warts by heating the fluid in these warts for a short period. Erbium lasers are 10% more effective than CO2 lasers because they minimize the side effects of thermal damage due to the CO2 lasers. It works on the principle of ablation by the surgical removal of the infected epidermis of warts till the normal healthy tissue becomes visible. A review article investigating the effectiveness of Erbium YAG lasers in treating warts reported a the72% success rate of the treatment but a reoccurrence rate of 24% in plantar warts.
The photodynamic property method uses a specific gel applied to warts for three hours. The gel contains a chemical compound activated by the laser that helps destroy the wart tissue.
