Surgical treatment
- Vein surgery: The surgeon cuts off the problematic vein during these operations, also known as ligation and stripping, to prevent blood from accumulating. To stop varicose veins from recurring, the surgeon may extract (strip) the vein.
- Laser therapy: A catheter and laser are used by medical professionals in the minimally invasive treatment termed “endovenous thermal ablation” to seal off a damaged vein.
- Injection therapy (sclerotherapy): A medical professional injects a substance into your vein during sclerotherapy. The vein walls stick to one another because of the solution. The vein progressively disappears and changes into scar tissue (3).
