Unplanned weight loss
Patients with advanced cancer have a characteristic in common: they lose weight without even planning for it. Unplanned weight loss is one that occurs without any significant change in your dietary pattern or exercise routine. You just start losing weight without any apparent reason. If you lose 5% of weight or more in six months to a year without any of the changes we just mentioned above, talk to your doctor to know the reason why. Many types of cancer and other chronic diseases may be the cause.
Unplanned weight loss in advancer cancer is often accompanied by fatigue and muscle weakness. It is a wasting syndrome called cachexia, which is more prevalent in aggressive cancers. It is also common in other diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis.
